Golden Triangle of Akrotiri: Evening Expedition

What mood should you go fishing in? How to set yourself up for a trophy catch?

Today, our VCyprusFish team went on an evening tuna fishing trip. At 5 PM, we set out on the water with our two friends, Mikhail and Alexander. We decided to check out some closer spots in the evening and headed towards the center of the Golden Triangle of Akrotiri.

Preparation and Start of Fishing

We equipped one rod with a bright pink-orange lure with a working depth of 2 meters. The second rod had a mackerel imitation with a working depth of 4-6 meters. We let out the line to 100-120 meters. The sea had waves, and the trolling speed was 6-7 miles per hour.

First Bite and Trophy

About an hour into the fishing, as the sun began to set towards the horizon, the sound of the reel’s drag thrilled our hearts and ears. Within 10-15 minutes, we pulled in a trophy — an 8 kg tuna. Everyone was extremely happy and in great spirits. It was suggested that a relaxed atmosphere increases the chance of a bite.

Friendly Atmosphere and Second Bite

On the boat, our friends started drinking whiskey with cola. We hadn’t seen each other in a while, discussing news, how the summer went, and how our families were doing. During this casual conversation and over a drink, we got a second bite. The joy increased many times over. After making a second round, we headed home.

Biggest Tuna of the Season

About 20 minutes later, with the sun already below the horizon, we got another bite. We reeled in a tuna, which turned out to be the biggest of the season, possibly weighing up to 18 kg. Happy and full of emotions, we returned home.

Fishing Mindset: Key to Success

The key to successful fishing is the right mindset and good mood. It’s important not to think only about the fish you’re going to catch, but to enjoy the process, spend time with friends in good company. Fishing is a great way to relax, chat, unwind with a drink of whiskey or cognac, and simply enjoy every moment.

We even poured cognac overboard, prayed to the tuna gods, made up prayers, and swore — doing everything like true fishermen.

End of the Evening

The evening ended with success, happiness, and joy. We finished the cognac, ate sashimi, and enjoyed our victory. This evening reminded us how important the company of friends and a positive attitude are in fishing. Every moment was filled with happiness, making our trip truly golden.
