Yesterday’s fishing trip turned out to be quite unusual, thanks to a conversation with one of the local Cypriots, which led us to an interesting conclusion. We discussed the best times to catch tuna, their habits, feeding times, and rest periods. We agreed that during the full moon, which is currently observed in Cyprus, the fish are active at night due to the bright moonlight.
Early Morning Departure
As a result, we decided to wake up early. At 2:30 AM, I woke up, and by 3:00 AM, I was already in the boat, heading to the distant points of our favorite crater. Around 4:00 AM, while it was still dark and the weather was quite good, I cast the lines and set up the lures.
The First Bite
The lures worked literally within 40 minutes, as I made a round at the distant points. The first bite happened on the left rod – the reel screamed. I took out the camera, started filming, and made the hook set. At that moment, there was a bite on the second rod as well – another tuna. I hooked the second rod too, set the boat to a slow speed, and began reeling in the fish.
Sunrise and Two Trophies
It was an amazing sight: the bright moon was still visible, and the sun was rising. After half an hour of successful reeling, I became the proud owner of two trophies – a 15 kg tuna and a 10.5 kg tuna. One of them I will smoke whole in the near future.
Conclusion
Thus, the early morning effort and advice from local experts paid off. This was one of the most memorable fishing trips of my life, and I am happy to share this experience with you. Stay tuned for more stories about fishing and life in Cyprus!
